Tottenham Jujitsu Club Members grab 7 medals at an International Jujitsu Competition

On Saturday the 9th May 2009, Tottenham Jujitsu Club entered a squad of 8 members into the Kokoro Kai Jujitsu competition in Southend, Essex. The competition attracted competitors from as far afield as Belgium, Denmark, Northern Ireland, Italy, USA and all corners of the UK.

Tottenham Jujitsu Club members were seeking improve on last year's haul of 4 medals. They put in a great performance and almost doubled the number to 7.

The following club members won medals.

Reginal Mpawulo, a green belt, won a gold medal in the super heavyweight category and a bronze medal in the super heavyweight ground fighting event. Reginal was beaten in the semi final of this event by his club mate and eventual Gold medallist Trevor Campbell.

In the super heavyweight ground fighting event Trevor Campbell, fighting in his first Jujitsu competition won the gold medal in a category that had 16 competitors.

Demetrious Anastasiou won a bronze medal in the middle weight ground fighting event. Demetrious was beaten in the semi final by his club mate and eventual gold medal winner Leon Jackson.

In the heavy weight sparring event, Piotr Kukulski, won a bronze and there was also a bronze for Daniel Krokou in the heavy weight ground fighting.

Other members James Groom and 13 year old Thomas battled hard but were both beaten in the quarter finals.

The Tottenham Jujitsu Club meets every Wednesday between 8.00 - 9.30 pm at the Tottenham Community Sports Centre , 701 High Road Tottenham London N17 8AD.
