Black Belt Grading Success

LeightonGradingJune2008.jpg

At Leighton Buzzard on Saturday, four black belt gradings took place. Two were 1st Dan levels for our own Sensei Jason and Sensei John (who used to run Shenley) and two were for Ryan and Ben taking their senior black belts.

At the 1st Dan grading both senseis showed off practical teaching knowledge, first aid and anatomy as well as answering lots of awkward questions from a large panel of high grade black belts (a combined total of more than 30 Dans). Both demonstrated an excellent range of knowledge and skill which they have gained on the mat teaching at their respective clubs for more than a year.

For their Senior black belt, Ryan and Ben demonstrated a huge range of techniques - they went through the entire syllabus which included 4-man multiple attackers, strangles, escapes, throws, locks, counters and kata. All were performed at breath-taking speed, but with full control. An excellent grading and I'm sure they will expand their knowledge even further as they start teaching their technique to others. They are a credit to their senseis.

Thanks go to Tom from Shenley for taking part in the multiple attacker section - and surviving.
